Sometimes, apparently right after playing the new ocean event minigame, the second pet equipped with the pets plus malfunctions, cannot be picked up or made to eat, drink, sleep or shower, and has a much harder time following the pet. player, falling far behind. This is solved by saving the pet and taking it out again, but it would be great if they fixed the problem so that it doesn't happen.

This happens to me too, but when I hold my alt's pet then join the minigame.
